“Basic Proportions for Drawing Human Figure”

                                                   ***Day 3 (11/02/22)***

(Special Activity 1): Gesture Drawing Exercise Task

This is an exercise activity that will be focused on drawing human body poses.

There will be 12 poses to show up in 30 seconds each and, all I have to do is to draw their human body structure/character pose in each space.

This task was rushed but I actually managed to draw some poses based on the pictures. You can see the image result on the right.

Basic Body Proportions

There are four Basic body Proportions that are needed to structure for character pose:

Basic Volume for the Torso

The Basic Volume for the Torso includes:

Understanding the Character’s body appearance

To draw a character design, you need to know the difference about their characteristics and backstory story. Examples include their Gender, Ethnicity, Weight, Age and Capacity.

Basic Proportions for the Head

When making basic proportions for the head, they need to use the following styles, which are Hair line Eyebrow line, Nose tip line and Chin line

Basic Volume for the Rest

There are three Basic volume for the rest and those are Cylinders, Pyramid Segments and Cone Segments

An example drawing process on the right —> shows how the rectangular volume are being used to create a simple body sketch.

Using A-Pose

To improve the 3D modelling, it’s better to start using an effective base and A-pose that can easily create their symmetrical body. However, it’s important to avoid strong facial expressions and keep their measures both front and side view at a time. It’s also necessary to pay attention to round/circular lines as they’re used for measuring the proportions.

(Special Activity 2): Character’s Concept Art Sketch Task

This time, an exercise about using a Graphic tablet device and Photoshop software to create a character concept art. Thanks to the tutor's advice and module guidelines, I learned the important steps to use the shapes and create the body proportions that match both the front and side view of the character. Some patterns may not be accurate, but I tried my best to make them simple. Here are the two results of the drawing sketch process of this task down below:
