Gameplay Lesson Reflection #4
Prototype and Playtesting
***Day 11 (06/11/2023)** RC-OB-CU*
Testing your Game Project:
- make sure to test the mechanics before finalising them
- "You are the worst tester of your game". To make it easy, try to let someone else tests out.
- Each mechanic, level sections and art pass should be tested as you go during implementation.
A bit of Elaboration:
- You understand what your intended designs are
- You must understand how to play the game and using their controls
- You must understand what the answers to your "puzzles" are
- You must understand what the player is "meant" to do
- You can bug fix, but you can't playtest
A: B Testing
- Got an ideas for how a mechanic or level design should work?
- Produce variations of your designs and test with groups to see what
works best.
- Valve are considered masters of this, putting their testing approach into all their games. The level designs in the Half Life games are a perfect result of this constant “what if” design question.
